Problem solving - will all the medals cost the same (part 2)

We realised that the names costed different amounts because the letters cost different amount.

Problem solving - will all the medals cost the same?

We predicted that the medals would cost the same because all the names started with H and all the names had five letters in. In partners we worked out all the calculations.

Engraving our medals!

More counting in 2s, 5s and 10s. With a few tricky problems to solve as well!

Representing numbers in different ways

We have been making numbers in lots of different ways. This involved counting in 2s, 5s and 10s.

Building with Solid Shapes

We explored the properties of 3D shapes.

This was the problem.

Look what fun we had problem solving.

Shape Problems

This was our problem.

This is the fun we had solving it.

Great reasoning!

Super team work!

Marvellous modelling!

Perfect use of patterns and relationships.

Fantastic predictions.

Working really hard to find all possibilities.

In our groups, we had to decide on a plan to work systematically. No one was allowed to just watch, we had to each take a role. We worked cooperatively to create patterns and to check that they followed the rules given. If we made a mistake in the pattern we simply discussed it then moved the shapes around. The most successful groups were those who talked about the problem and how to solve it. Great work Year Two!

Computing Challenge

We used '2 Simple Modelling Toolkit' to explore shape and pattern. We had fun rotating shapes and changing their colour to create our patterns. After completing our patterns we described them to our Maths Talk Partners.

Let's Talk Maths!

Check out our problem solving. We had to work systematically, look for patterns and relationships, draw models and use logical reasoning to find all the possibilities to solve our shape problems.

This was the problem we had to solve. Miss Whiteley asked us to find all the ways to make a house for 6 then 7 people. We worked with a partner to find solutions. It was such good fun. We definitely did 'talk maths'! Can you remember any of the patterns we noticed?
